Shenandoah is home to many species of birds such as the Southeastern American Kestral, Bob White Quail, and Mourning Dove. In addition, the hilly terrain provides a majestic view and perfect habitat for the Florida Gopher Tortoise, which may be seen lumbering along grazing in the grass.

For recreation, Citrus County offers many fine golf courses, tennis courts and superb fishing. Only thirty minutes to the north, Ocala is a thriving equestrian community. To the south, Tampa, with its International airport, Raymond James Stadium and multi-cultural activities is only one hour and fifteen minutes away.
